What to do when a QR code does not scan

Use this article when the scanner cannot read a QR code.

Before you start

• Confirm you are using the scanner for the correct branch and occasion.

Steps

1. Ask the visitor to turn up screen brightness.
2. Ask them to hold the phone still and remove glare from the screen.
3. Move the camera slightly closer or farther away.
4. Ask the visitor to generate a new QR code.
5. Confirm they selected the correct student and occasion.
6. If scanning still fails, follow your school’s manual check-in procedure.
7. Record the exception if your school requires an exception log.

Expected result

The student is either scanned successfully or handled through the approved exception process.

Troubleshooting

• Do not release a student only because the visitor says they are authorized.
• Do not use manual check-in unless your role and school policy allow it.
