Escalating unusual situations

Know exactly when to stop scanning and call a supervisor.

Use this article when a situation cannot be resolved safely at the scanning station.

Before you start

  • Know the escalation contact for the current shift.

Steps

  1. Stop processing the scan.
  2. Keep the student in a supervised area.
  3. Ask the visitor to wait calmly.
  4. Call the supervisor or school office.
  5. Share the student name, visitor name, and issue.
  6. Wait for instruction.
  7. Record the outcome if required.

Expected result

Unusual pickup situations are handled by authorized school staff, not decided at the gate.

Troubleshooting

  • Escalate immediately for custody disputes, declined confirmations, or aggressive behavior.
  • If there is immediate danger, follow your school emergency procedure.
